February 10 (Sun.) 2 pm

KULU MELE African Dance Ensemble. Since its creation three decades ago, Kulu Mele African American Dance Ensemble has established a national reputation as a unique and dynamic performing company. The longest-lived African Dance company in Philadelphia, Kulu Mele has built a repertoire that is an exciting blend of West African ancestral tradition and African American creativity. Performances include music and dance of Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea, Senegal, Brazil, Haiti, Cuba and African America. A force behind a vital African cultural renaissance in Philadelphia, the Ensemble teaches and performs both new and traditional works. All dances are authentically costumed and choreographed to convey not only artistic excellence but also the meanings of dancing and drumming in the African societies from which these traditions come. Tickets are $12 for age 12 & under and $14 for adults. 

A $5 workshop is available before the show.  WORKSHOP STARTS AT 1 PM. Children will design a traditional African tribal mask with beads, feathers, ribbon, and bright face paint. During the show the workshop participants will present their masks on stage.  Space is limited to 30 participants. Please reserve your space early. One parent must accompany their children.  Please note that one craft is available per paid workshop.   

April 20(Sun.): 2:00

 Mock Turtle Marionette Theater presents "Book Beast Puppet".  Mock Turtle Marionette Theater has toured throughout the Mid-Atlantic States for over two decades. Come and see “Book, Beast and Puppet” the newest of their incredible shows.  Mock Turtle takes the audience back to the time when animal tales ruled the world of books.  This show will include lots of stories, marionettes and audience participation!  Tickets to the show are $10 for adults & $8 for children $12 & under.   

 

A workshop is available prior to the show for an additional cost of $5. WORKSHOP STARTS AT 1 PM  This puppet-making workshop will be presented by puppet master and found of the Mock Turtle Marionette Theater Dough Roysdon. Workshop puppets include a fine menagerie of characters including lions, dragons, aliens, and superheroes.  Space is limited to 30 participants. Please reserve your space early. One parent must accompany their children.  Please note that one craft is available per paid workshop.
